Those little strings sticking out of your ballet shoes... What are they for? And what do we do with them?

Those little strings sticking out of your ballet shoes.... What are they for? And what do we do with them?

To our baby ballerinas these are the most important little bows that must in place at all times during their lesson! But they are in fact used to used to draw the shoe in and keep it nice and snug around your little dancers feet.

Some shoes have elastic string which you can tie up and then cut off the excess string. Others have cotton drawstrings which tend to be shorter. When cutting the strings make sure you leave some to spare so that you can adjust them as necessary. You also don’t want to risk loosing the string inside the shoe! Whilst it’s very tempting to tie them in a big bow the strings are in fact supposed to be tucked away inside the shoe. This will also keep them in place for the whole class.

But if they come loose, we’ll always be there to fix the little bows and turn those frowns upside down 💕 shoutout to all the parents who have been fixing bows in our absence while we are back on zoom!
